Penrith 20. December
Dear Sir

I wish I was able to give you
a better account of your Patient Mrs. Sisson
who who I am afraid grows worse and worse in
every respect. To a person of the best dispositions
and greatest resignation, such situations are
exceedingly calamatous, but when at the
same time we gave such dispositions to
encounter at the same time, the affair becomes
[ex]tremely pitiable. The Ext. Cicuta has been
gradually encreased, by stealth, to the quantity
of thirty five grains daily without producing
either giddiness or any of the other symptoms
mentioned by D. Cullen. The Extract was
prepard by my self from the Seeds of the
Hemlock, and seven grains of the same
preparation has produced giddiness in
other patients; and tho' it has been now made
above twelve Months it does not seem to

be at all impaird, as far as one may judge
by the smell, taste, or appearance. At the same
time if it is judged proper to give it a [future?]
try we should be glad to have some of the
Extract which is prepard at Edenburgh,
- It was with some difficulty that she coud
be prevaild upon to use the sublimate in¬
jection, and tho' in the very small portion of
one grain of the Sublimate to four ounces of
Rose Water, she still farther diluted with a
third part of Water, and complained much of
pain on it's being thrown up. The utmost
persuasions coud not induce her to try the
injection of Chamomile Tea and Brandy,
so that we were obliged to content ourselves
with the Chamomile Decoction by way of
Fomentation. The sore has spread much since
I wrote last, yet it looks clean, florid, and
the granulations have a benign appearance.
The inguinal Glands on the side of the diseased

large indurated Tumor on that side, the
bigness of a Hen's Egg, and in every respect
the appearances are every Day more &
more cancerous --- Her general health is
not at all impaird - she has no hectic

her strength and appetite are as good
