Sir

Having received a most melancholy account of
my father's complaints, & quite different from those
on former occasions, my anxiety & distress of
mind oblige me to lay it immedietely be¬
fore you; & most earnestly to sollicit your
indulgence for the liberty I take in requesting
that you may consider the letter from
Dr. Clarke, who graduated here in September
last, & my father which I have enclos'd, &
from them write a plan of future regimen
both as to diet & medicines which I shall
call for to morrow between 12 & 1 OClock: at
which time I would gladly also have the
pleasure of a few minutes conversation
with you on the subject. If that hour
be inconvenient for you I hope a few
minutes before three I shall have the
pleasure of finding you at home.

I'm afraid as my fathers bowels are so
very irritable the external topical use
of mercury must chiefly be trusted; but
of this you will be pleas'd to say a few
words, & whether any use of the Cicuta toge¬
ther with the Aperient vegetables recommend¬
ed by Boerhave is proper, in your directions
which are intended to be put into the post office
to morrow by, Sir,

your most obedient &
grateful humble servant
John Caldwell
Friday Evening
