Mc:Dowal saw you last, he has been ↑since [Inst:?]↑ 1 mostly
rideing about on Account of Business, & has
not been more than 6 Days at a time in
this place, he has therefor not had it in his
power to go on with a proper Course of
the pectoral Pills you last recommended
or to have any more of the Decoctum Tussilago
& Parietariœ as you before ordered. --- But
has had no threatenings of the Hæmoptoe
& has been rather gathering more Strength
of late. Tho he complains much of an obsti¬
nate Costiveness ↑a Disposition to↑ which seems to be every Day
encreasing upon him. -- The Pills you

last ordered, as well as the former Electuary
after using two or three Times lost their
Effects & were obliged to be used in such large
Doses to produce a proper Effect that thay
became very inconvenient & even then
uncertain, so that I was obliged to have recour[se]
again to the Castor Oil (Made into an Emul¬
sion) which has always been as yet effectual
But this again he complains of as lying
heavy on his Stomach. ---
He at present attributes all his
Complaints to his Costive habit, & from ta¬
king a Retrospect of his former Complaint
I am apt to believe it has acted in these, always
as a Strong Occasional Cause if not as a
prædisposing one also. -- For in the Dange¬

some year's ago in the troublesome Cutane¬
ous Eruption ↑that he had↑ & his late pectoral Com¬

For farther particulars I must refers
