A friend of mine, a gentleman of
some consequence in this country –
whose health has suffer'd much from
various ailments of the chronic kind
for some years past having heard
much of the deservedly eminent name
you hold in your profession and in com¬
pliance with my desire advice, has
very much to my wishes, & satisfac¬
tion desir'd I wou'd lay before you a
state of his case for your opinion, and
advice – as he & I equally expect think
that much advantage may accrue to
his health in future from such a step.
My acquaintance Mr. Percival, whose
merits must have recommended him
to yours, & the notice of the other gentle¬
men whose lectures he has attended,
will wait on you with five guineas

with which my friend desires you
may be presented – and I will esteem
it as a favor done me if you will take
the enclos'd, in which I have endevor'd
to give you some history of the leading
circumstances of his situation, & also
have made general mention of the treat¬
ment & medicines us'd for his relief
by me & other physicians hitherto –
under your consideration, & transmit
to me with all convenient speed your senti¬
