Edinburgh January 19th. 1779
Dear Sir


I am just come from Calling to have
had a freindly Conversation upon the State of my Stub¬
orn Gleets
is not like leave me notwithstanding the
Repeated medecines given me by your direction from
Messrs Woods, a low Diet which made me try the
Decoction of Sarsaparilla
and when Costive a little
Cream of Tartar mixed with Magnesia in place of
the Electory I thought from the frequent Repetition
of it had lost it's Effects with the Uneasy Effects
all Phisick has of a Binding Quality
after the
Working is over –– Upon the whole I think I am
a little better the Running mostly abated, but
still a great heat of Urine, Pain in my back and
bad Rest, especially after Rideing & Anciety of mind
so that with your aprobation I propose going air¬
ly in the Spring to the Goat Whay where I can also
use the Sea Baithing, which Mr. Wood aproves of
this Day –– Mean time I can't Rest satisfeid untill I
have a note of what I am to use & carrie West with me
will singularly Obligd

N:B: if you Insist for my staying some Days in Town I will tho'
very Disagreable to me, if not a note of the medecines by the Bearer
will be Obliging as I leave this tomorrow morning. Or the answer sent
