I Hope the Boldness which I presume will
be in offensive when I tell you I was a scholar
of yours about the Year 1773. - The Young
Man that Delivers this Letter has also some
Time been a Substitute of mine.
The Lady for whom I write is affected in the
following Manner. - She is about fourteen Years
of age, but the Menses have not yet appear'd.
She takes Fits once a Day, sometimes three
or four Times; & one fit may hold her for
the Space of thirty or forty Seconds; But
sometimes the Intervals will be three or four
Days between. - The Cuprum Ammoniala has
been tried, as also many Volatile Medicines;
Flores Zinci has been made use of, but hitherto
to no purpose. - Electricity has often been
tried but found useless. - Woud you gratify
me with your opinion on this Case? I should
acknowledge myself in the Deepest obligation
both for my own advantage, & the satisfaction
of the Young Ladies [Parents?] I flatter myself with
your Answer & give me leave to subscribe myself,
Please to direct to me Surgeon at Keswick Cumberland
PS. No reason can be given for those Complaints & the Lady has
been so for three Years.
