Copy Directions for Mr Laing's Sons
Malcolm & Mr Robert


That the sores should be daily washed with a strong
infusion of wormwood or Chamomile to which at using add
a little spirit, & with a spunge make all parts quite clean


1o. A cannister containing healing digestive, with which
dress the larger sores, & those that have a foul look, spreading
the pledget thin


2do. A cannister containing white Cerate with which dress
the superficial sores


3tio. A small Glass. Escharotick powder a little to be sprinkld
in case of Proud flesh


4to. A Cannister of Polychrest salt, a quarter of an Ounce a ↑dose↑
to be taken once a week ↑dissolved↑ in half a Mutchkin of water


As Dr. Cullen who has been in the habit of advising
for them, is in the Country, I am unwilling, to allow them
to go away without some directions, to the above directions
for management of the sores, I would add that attention
should be paid to diet, & proper Exercise & that they should
continue the use of the Tussilago Decoction of which they
have ↑a↑ receipt, for a month spring & autumn, tho they may
use it at other times also, the Dr & I Both had thoughts
this spring of advising the Sea Bathing & drinking of
salt water
, but Mr. Malcolms attack of the spitting of
blood
prevented it. With regard to him,

And Mr Samuel has for sometime been distress'd with a
pain in his neck, where that entirely gone, I think he might
try the Bathing & drinking sea water, but cannot advise it
for Mr. Malcom tho' he has been for sometime free of his blo↑ody↑
spitting
, without Dr Cullens concurrence,
