Sir

In October last I wrote you
that there was a sore ap↑p↑pearing on the
whole Side of Mr Gardiners Lip.
Soon after I read your [answer?] he went
to Montrose; where he has been all
Winter. He came home three Days
ago, when I visited him, and found
a large Cancerous Ulcer with ragged
edges & fetid discharge. M.rs Gardiner says
he used to bleed frequently. He Complains
of little pain, is in good health & has a
good appetite, which I fancey he has
indulged at Montrose - I shall make

[Page 2]

no alteration in your directions, till I
hear from ↑you↑ or Mr Wood, to whom you'll
please offer my Compliments.

I am
with the greatest respect
Sir
your most Obedient &
