I received in Course of Post after I saw you
the Directions from you & Mr. Wood, how I was to proceed under the Course
of Medicin prescribed. I now find the Mercury in my Mouth & have
therfor Stopt proceeding further till Such time as I have your orders
but shall continue at the Decoction, without intermission ---
I can not yet discover any very Material Alterations on my com¬
plaints, tho' I am certain there is some Amendment in the Oldest of
the Sores. Indeed it can not be expected that any great Change
coud take place from Friday Sen,night, which was the first time
I took any of the Solution. The principal Effect it had, & has upon
me, is the opening my Belly and creating persperation in the Night
I have never taken more than 65 Drops. My Diet has been chiefly
of Milk, & from the badness of the Weather I have keept my Room
constantly. If you are to prescribe any Medicins, that there is
the least hazard of my not finding them in the Surgeons Shops
here, I hope Mr. Wood will be so good as send them out by
[Page 2]
our Carrier who comes from Edinburgh Thursday Morning. But if
he shoud be gone, he may Send them down to Leith & Mr. Dalrymple
of this place is at Mr. Rannies, Who will bring them out for Me
If you fix on the Course I am to follow tomorrow, it woud be
obliging coud you send your Directions by the Same hand, as I
can not hear from you in Course of Post till Friday.
I beg my best Compliments to Mr. Wood & I am respectfully
Sir
Your Most Obedient Servant
