Mr Key aged 45 years has for several years
past been troubled with violent head achs, The physical
people told ↑him↑ a fit of the Gout would do him good but
he never has had a fit tho he has ↑had↑ frequently pains in
his feet something like gouty pains, about 16 months
ago he had a stroke of the Palsy which was a compleat
Hemiplegia, he thought it was occasioned by a long ride
he had taken the preceeding day, by the way I must tell
you Mr Key takes no exercise is a man of a relaxed state
and weak nerves, this palsy went of unexputedly well
he has no remains of it excepting a very little coldness
and weakness is some of his fingers of hand ↑the↑ hand of that side
that was affected, he had always tender feet and was a
bad walker -- For Four years past he has had once a
year a complaint in his Toes, it begins with pain
inflamation and swelling in d one or two of his toes
it breaks out to a sore in some part of his toe it turns
black as if mortified or eat with a caustick, the black
part casts off and then the sore heals, they are at present
inflamed and swelled but has not yet turned black
tho pain goes up his leg to his knee and thigh
there are likewise some spots on his legs like those we call
scurvy spots -------
[Page 2]
he takes at present what he used to take formerly on
these occasions which is half an ounce of white mustard
seed every morning and a dram of bark twice a day
and we poultice the toes, he has a very good appetite
rather indulges I beleive in high seasoned food, he is
very regular in his belly, his pulse low rather quick
I advised him last summer to try the cold bath it had a
wonderfull good effect it strengthned him greatly and
we thought had quite cured him, but has now got Aas
a return of the complaint of the toes as I have described
above, I have here enclosed a Guinea note, please to
prescribe for him as soon as you possibly can
I am with great respect
Sir your most obedient Servant
