For Mr Lennox.


The Anodyne balsam is to be taken is to be taken in a dose of
50 drops every night at bedtime & continued for two or
three weeks & then to be intermitted for a week or two but
entered upon again for another course, sooner or later
according to the effect of the former trial & the state of
his complaint. The dose is to be at first 50 drops but
it may be increased as the Stomach bears it to sixty or
even seventy drops. The best way of taking it is

this. Take two teaspoonfuls of powdered loafs sugar
put this into the bottom of a Small teacup & drop upon
it the dose of balsam. Stir them pretty well together, pour
on them two or three tablespoonfuls of water & after
stirring it a little swallow it immediately & wash it down
with a mouthful or two of porter & water.


The Laxative Tincture is to be mixed with Castor oil
two table spoonfuls of the tincture to six of the oil.
Shaking well before it is swallowed, that they may be well
mixed. The dose may at first be a tablespoonful but
increased or diminished so as to give a free stool without
purging.

Take two ounces of Balsam copal. Label: Anodyne Balsam.

Take four ounces of Tincture of Senna. Label: Laxative Tincture.
