Reply headed 'For Captain Skene'. 'After Captain Skenes Cough and spitting have continued so long we could not pretend to remove them, and though we could, we think it would be very dangerous to attempt it'. He is advised to go to a warmer climate for the winter. Diaphoretic prescriptions for his wife are also included. Some parts of the copy are illegible due to excessive wetness or water damage; the missing words have been pencilled in, but are not always legible. It is unclear from the letter whether the Captain is currently residing in Fife or in Edinburgh. | 15? May 1787 | |||
