Reply, 'Capt. Steele'. The patient is moving back to Hamilton's rea and is likely to become a patient. He has respiratory problems, for which Cullen has blistered him. His regimental surgeon had been averse to bleeding him because of 'a weakness of his constitution from a particular cause', possibly a euphemism for a venereal disease. The letter seems to be delivered by Captain Steele in person, as Cullen gives him 9 shillings to pay for a net which he had bought from Hamilton to protect his fruit (from birds): 'It has served to preserve a pretty good Cropt of Cherries which I would have lost without it'. | 16? Reply, 'Capt. Steele'. Bleeding the patient is to be left to Hamilton's discretion: 'I hope a low diet and your cooling medicines will set every thing to right very soon'. | 22 July 1784

Letter from James Hamilton, concerning the case of Captain Steel, who 'By a careful attention to regimen & the use of the Nitre, with the Blessing of the Almighty [...] has nearly got free of his dangerous symptoms'. He also mentions his own case: Hamilton has sprained both his ankles 'leaping over a wall' in a hurry to visit Captain Steel, and is barely able to walk. Cullen notes a suggested treatment, and a list of names on the reverse, the significance of which is unclear. | 28 July 1784
