A son of William Boyd (1705-1746) the 4th Earl of Kilmarnock, and Lady Anne Livingston. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Jacobite Life Guards, and fought in the Battle of Culloden after which he escaped abroad, unlike his father who was captured and beheaded for treason. Father of Mrs Charlotte Gordon. His brother was James Boyd (Hay), 15th Earl of Erroll who fought on the Government side. |
