Son of Col James Johnstone of Graitney and Isabel Ruthven. He changed his name after his mother inherited the Ruthven title. Through his second marriage in 1736, to Lady Anne Stuart, became brother-in-law of the Earl of Bute. He was staying at Moncreiffe House near Perth in 1768. |
