Swinging

Therapy devised by the Edinburgh trained, London physician James Carmichael Smyth (1742-1821), as explained in his An account of the effects of swinging, employed as a remedy in the pulmonary consumption and hectic fever (London:1787). Cullen encouraged its experimental use in some cases of consumption.
