Letter from Hugh Marshall, visiting Edinburgh, concerning Reverend Robert McFarlane of Kilfinan, who had 'complain'd thro the whole winter of a pain in the small of his back, but [in February] it had grown greatly worse'. It is in the region of the left kidney, and spasms of pain extend to the testicle and thigh, with pain on urinating. He cannot turn himself in bed. Marshall describes some of the medicines used.
