Yours of date the 9th. January is before me
in which you desire me to inform you more
particularly, than I had then done, about Mr.
Fergussons habit of body and if in the late attack
of his Disease he has followed strictly the regimen you
prescribed him. --- All this time has elapsed proc¬
uring that information -- When I wrote you befour
I never doubted but that he had followed your
advice, as he had your directions by him, but upon
more particular enquiry I find he has not --

He says he was about twelve years of age when
he had your first advice, that is about nine years
since, that he is of a middling size and has grown
gradually to that size, that the fits affect him exactly in
the same way they did then, only more liable to attack
him in the night, that when awake he is affected first in
the right wrist about the lower end of the Radius
proceeding quickly up his arm and from that reach¬
es the Præcordia, when he becomes very uneasy for a few
minutes, but neither foams at the mouth nor becomes
unsensable of what is doing or saying about him,
tho he cannot speak upon those occasions (at least) he

[Page 2]

wishes for solitude. When they attack him while asleep
he is more uneasy tho less sensible of his situation

They observe no regular period, sometimes attacking
him every day for two or three days, and then perhaps
not for some weeks. His health is good in other respects
and rather of a ruddy complexion, tho not over fat

In the last trial of your medicines he sayes he paid
strict attention to the regimen you prescribed to him
and continued it and then for a long time, but the
cold Bath he very much neglected, notwithstanding
which he would not let me rest till I would write
you again and, begs your farther advice.
