Related to Charles Hamilton of Spittlehaugh who was surgeon at Nevis in the West Indies, (circa 1740s). A later relation, Andrew Hamilton of Spittlehaugh, Writer to the Signet, died in 1807. The house, Spittlehaugh, was later owned by Sir William Ferguson, Bart, 1808-1877, anatomist, later Professor of Surgery at King's College Hospital.
