Dear Doctor

For the three last Evenings
my Sister has had the grousings pritty near
the same time they are chiefly in the Arms
and pritty close sweats & very hot, restless and
oppressed. She has also a sort of burning heat
in the left side which I am afraid forebodes us
much mischief. Her Appetite is very poor, and
does not seem to bear sitting up so well, and
upon the whole I think Weaker than she was.
The pulse is pritty regular and tolerably full
after the Paroxysm is over, but generally too
low to admit of bleeding. She has been kept
entirely to the Regimen you desired, she takes
the Pill every night and is rather kept quiet
than Sleeps from it, but still she has two or
three hours Sleep now & then. Her Cough is
very [trifling?] & a most agreeable expectoration

[Page 2]

I tryed her with a very slight Infus. Cort: Peru
but I found it rather hurt her, she has been
much relieved by Lenient Injections, and has
had the Magnes. et Rhub twice. I have
this afternoon given her Vin. Viperin ℥iii
Syr. Bals. ʒii. Aq: Alex: Simp: ℥i in
Haust: 1 & found it agree excessively well &
hope I shall be incouraged to pursue it
twice a Day as I propose. She is very
free from all thirst, but her Spirits or {illeg}
fortitude fails her frequently. Which {illeg}
us a good deal. Her Urine throws down
a large white & light Sediment almost to half
the depth of the Glass, the water is high colour'd
altho' not excessively so & has rather an
unfavourable Scum upon the top. I shall
be glad to hear from you about bleeding, blistering
& whether I may give her freely of the pulverised Traga¬
canth
: Compounds, and any thing you think may
be farther usefull- in the mean time I am

Dear Sir your most obedientServant
John Burn

[Page 3]

I received your last kind favour since you
left us--

I forgot to observe that during the hot part
of the paroxysm, the Cheeks are coveryd with a
fixed & circumscribed high-redness - which gives
me much concern. ---------
