Dear Sir

I am sorry to find that you cannot get
quit of one ailment without falling into another but I
must tell you that your breast complaints were the most
dangerous of the two and if these keep away we shall soon
get the better of the looseness. If it had been from the Asses
Milk only it would have ceased before now or might have been
safely stopt but I must join you in suspecting it to be so
much an operation of nature that it shoud not be suddenly
stopt altogether. However I am clear for moderating it
and therefore send you here inclosed a prescription for an in¬
fusion to be used in the morning. I would still have you
continue the 30 drops of Laudanum every night
while the purging continues to return and about six, seven,
or eight hours after that dose and when its effects seem to be
worn off you are to take two table spoonfulls of the strength
ening Infusion
and if still some purging returns you should
in two or three hours after the first dose take a second. This

[Page 2]

I hope will sufficiently moderate both the griping and and purging
and I would ↑not↑ desire either the Laudanum or my infusion to
be used further than is just necessary for that purpose. I have
no objection to the toasted rhubarb providing it is highly toasted
and thereby the purgative quality of it quite destroyed. I do not
↑at↑ all insist on the blister unless some of your breast complaints
shall return. Tho it may not be proper for you to return
soon to the Asses Milk it is possible that Cows Milk may
still agree with you and if it does I shall think it a very
↑proper↑ part of your diet with any kind of grain or preparation of
grain. For some times you must be sparing of every kind of
fruit. Wishing heartily better health I am
