For Miss Dempster
June 21st 1764

When Miss Dempster gets to her Goat Whey
Quarters let her begin to take the whey by
degrees taking for the two first days about
a Gill only & every day after encreasing it
by half a Gill till she takes what her Stomach
easily bears which however should never exceed
a Chopin - When she comes to take more
than half a mutchkin it should be taken
divided into several draughts each a quarter
of an hour or twenty minutes from the other
She should begin pretty early & take the
first draught abed but should be up to
take the rest & if the weather allow
her to walk about a little between the
Draughts she will bear the whey the better.

When the Whey is finished she should
get on Horse back & ride for an hour before
she takes her breakfast- She need not
drink the Whey at any other time of
the day except she chooses to take a bowl
of Whey & Bread for supper. If the whey
prooves windy on her Stomach & does not
digest easily she may take a Tea spoonfull
of sugar of Anise in each draught
of the Whey

For the rest of her Diet she should
take only Milk & Grain abstaining
entirely from all kinds of Animal
food -

[Page 2]

For ordinary drink Toast & Water is the best
abstaining from all kinds of Wine or Malt Liquor.
If any Strong Drink is necessary let it be a
little Brandy with a large proportion of Water.
Along with this Course it will be very proper
forMiss Dempster to ride as much as she can
& particularly when the weather is fair she
should spend as much of the forenoon in riding
gently as she can easily bear.

As soon as Miss Dempster is settled in
her goat whey quarters, let a Perpetual
Issue
be put in between her Shoulders.

Let her every night & Morning take
three of the Pectoral Pills. If the morning
dose feels heavy on her stomach it
may be let alone then & taken half an hour
before Dinner - These doses are always
to be washed down with a Cupfull of the
Pectoral Tea - This is to be made by in¬
fusing a Paper of the materials in a much¬
kin of boiling water pouring it on at night
& letting it stand till morning then pouring it
off & sweatning with sugar candy, Besides what
is taken to was down the Pills, this Tea
should be taken at other times so as the
whole muchkin may be taken in a day
