For Mr. Mc.Keith
I have very attentively considered this Gentleman
Case as communicated by Mr. Buchan and am sorry to
observe that the Ailment appears to me pretty clearly.
I have no doubt that there is a Stone in the bladder
and I would by all means advise to have it determiĀ¬
ned by the Catheter employed by a skillful hand
whether it is so or not. For it a stone shall be found
there is but one absolutely certain means of relief
and if Mr. Mc.Keiths constitution be tolerably
entire I would advise him to have recourse to it.
At the same time I own that some other means
of relief may be tried and I shall advise the best
I know of but before I do so I beg to know his
determination upon what I have here proposed.
For if he will submitt to the Catheter upon the
report of the trial I will be able to advise much
[Page 2]
better. But if after all he cannot be persuaded
to submitt to the Catheter I beg to know and he may
depend upon my advising him fully with all the
pains and skills I can bestow.
