For Mr Mackie.

As you seem to have been attentive to all the directions I am
puzzled to find the cause of your heartburn & flatulence
or of the return of Piles. In this circumstance I must take
up the matter as I did at first & suppos that the weakness
of your
bowels is not yet sufficiently overcome, & I think
you have therefore done right in returning to your Cha¬
lybeate
& Infusion. If after using them for a fortnight
as at first you do not find your bowels free of heartburn &c

[Page 2]

I desire you to continue the Medicines for two weeks more.
For the third week take three Powders every day, two
in the forenoon & one in the Evening. & for the fourth
week take two, both forenoon & Evening. At the same
time observe my former advice in Diet &c. When
your Course is finished let me hear from you &c.
