Dr Mitchell Concerning Mr Wright

An Ascites always unfavourable & particularly so from
the Cause you insinuate; but I hope he will give over his
bad habits - & as the Anasarca had yielded I hope the
ascites will do so too - Your measures certainly most
proper & you must try and get your Patient to take his
Medicines fully - I prefer the Acet. Scillit to the Pills; but
many Patients agree better with the Pills than the
[Nauseous Acetum?] & therefore you may alternate .

I always prefer dried Squills if properly dried to the
fresh. - If in this Course the Urine does not increase try
the Colchicum which sometimes succeeds well, when used
largely that is from one to three ounces of the Syrup per
day. I have also found benefit from friction of the
Abdomen long continued with oiled fingers Altho the
Anasarca is much gone I would continue the flannel & flesh
brush
especially in the morning - I hope this weather will allow
him Exercise which I think a necessary part of his remedy --
