Mr Baillie of Carnbrue

Take four ounces of Rose Water, one and a half ounces each of Cinnamon and Peppermint, one ounce of Syrup of Balsam, one drachm of Spirit of Vitriol, and half an ounce of regenerated Tartar. Mix. Label: Aperient mixture, two spoonfulls two or three times a day.

2. Take four ounces of best Olive Oil, two drachms of Oil of Sassafras, and half an ounce of Spirit of Ammonia {illeg} Label: anodyne oil for anointing the pained parts.


3. Exercise avoiding Walking much, riding very gently, travelling in a Chaise
slowly & by short stages.


4. Diet of what the stomach bears. Avoid Malt. Liquors Wine & Water, a glass
of Wine or Punch if it does not heat.


5. Avoid Cold & wet. A flannel or flesh brush to the feet ------
