Mr J. Short. Concerning Mr Kay.

I was very doubtfull about the event of his Disease
but from the abatement of Cough Dyspnœa Diarrhœa
and sweatings I should have concieved good hopes but
the Spitting of blood must give us new fears ---

It is this symptom we only can attend to at present
& if his strength will any ways bear it, he must
take a little blood from his arm-- You will-
do best to take but a little at a time and rather
repeat it in a day or two after --- You must take
care that he is not kept too warm in his Chamber
& the only medicine I would advise at present is
the free use of Acids and particularly the Vitriolic
properly diluted. - Continue to keep his belly regular by
the Cream of Tartar pro re nata. 1 For a little you may--
suspend the [Decoction of Sarsparilla?] & for the suspicions of
Venereal which are not quite without foundation I may
perhaps advise both Mercury & Mezereon but I
cannot advise either till I hear how they Spitting of
blood turns out, nor till I am advised of this can I
give any advice about his other Phthisical complaints
When you have any thing to say clearly - you may--
write freely without a Fee sending a Fee -- --
