To Dr. Wemyss concerning Mrs Donaldson

I had the case of Mrs Donaldson signed by you put into my hands yesterday & therefore
address my opinion of it to you. I think it is unfavorable but by no means desperate.
I judge it to be entirely Anasarcous tho' I am not secure against there being some water in the
Thorax. However I would still try with purgatives adding [??] a dram of Compound
powder of Jallop
5 or 7 grains of Calomel. This purgative I would repeat every 2d. day for
2, or 3, times giving the Alkaline Infusion prescribed below in the intervening days. If you

[Page 2]

find this course succeed so as to tempt you to continue the purgatives you must
take care that the Calomil does not go to the mouth & therefore give alternate [eyther?] the
purgative with & without the Calomil but before you get that length you
may let me know what you have done ---
