For Mrs Riddell


Ailments depending on a weakness of stomach &
are nothing uncommon nor dangerous


Let her take one of the Stomachic Powders ordered
on the paper below twice a day, one about an hour before
dinner & the other about 7 in the Evening, washing
each of them down with two table Spoonfulls of
the absorbent Mixture ordered on the same paper
The Powders may be taken in a little Brandy
& water or made into a Bolus with Syrup &
swallowed in a wafer.

This Course is to be continued for a
fortnight & then interrupted & not renewed
again till some return of the disorder of
the stomach shall require it


If costiveness occurs take one or two of the Laxative Pills.
During the Course of these medicines fresh air &
frequent exercise in a Carriage very proper.


In Diet – at Dinner, light solid meat in
moderate quantity - Fish ever of the lightest kinds very
sparingly - Puddings very proper, & some of
the tenderest garden things but very sparingly.
Suppers very light if any Fruit with great
caution

Take 10 grains of ground Colombo Root, and make in this way 28 doses. Label: Stomachic Powders.

Take 4 scruples of prepared Chalk, 2 drachms of Gum Arabic, a drachm of refined Sugar, 8 ounces of water, and half an ounce of Nutmeg water. Mix according to the art and label: Absorbent mixture.

Take a drachm each of Socotrine Aloes and Gentian extract, 15 grains of rubbed Polychrest Salts, and Simple Syrup.
