For Mrs Miller

After so many fruitless efforts to relieve Mrs Millers complaint
we have little confidence to offer her any variety of medicines but there
is one which has been often found servicable in such complaints & this
we must recommend

This what we call the Stomachic Drops & twenty of them are
to be taken in a gill of water an hour before dinner & supper.

We consider this as a small dose but different People bear this
medicine differently & if Mrs M: bears that it well we would have the
Dose increased to 25 or 30 Drops & upon the same condition we
would have it taken before breakffast as well as before Dinner & Supper

Tho Mrs Millers Experience seems to have discovered nothing
with regard to the effects of Diet upon her complaints & we are
thereby less certain in directing it yet we are certain that every kind
of Food cannot be indifferent and we must advise her by the experience
we have had in other cases ~ We desire her therefore to avoid all
fat & greasy meats & sauces in general all fried & baked [meals?] or
pastes, ~ With these exceptions She may take of any kind of meal
she likes best --- Of all Greens & Roots or Broths made
with these we should (↑would↑) have her very sparing or rather for some time
to take none at all for the effects of any such abstinence do not appear
but in some length of time. - Let her avoid also all fruit especially
raw. She must avoid Lemon in sauces but she may take moderately
of Vinegar. - Of Drinks there is none we are certain of but
plain water & would have a tryal made of abstaining for some
time from all kinds of Wines or Malt Liquors & even from any kind
of Spirits tho a little of these in water might be Safer than any
of the former

[Page 2]

We would likewise enjoin a total abstinence from Coffee & Tea
at all times. ~ We think fresh air & Gentle Exercise
very proper but we have reason to believe that any (↑every↑) kind of brisk
Exercise will do harm & particularly on horseback
