The symptoms you mention are indeed troublesome &
I believe they have been much owing to your using the
Bougies too much & I hope you have used them less.
I would now employ them only upon some more than common

stricture or stopping occurring, & only the smallest ones. As present
you must be satisfied with living low, avoiding all exercise &
taking pretty plentfully of watery liquors. Dissolve an ℥j
of G. Arab. in a choppin of water & drink this in the course
of every 24 hours. Keep your belly open but not purged.
