Forbes of Bulogie
Sir

I received yours by Mr Simpson carefully Sealed. - I have delivered to
him the quantity of Castor Oil you require of the very best kind.

The dose I commonly employ is a tablespoonful. With some People
less will answer, & some require more, & by a few trials
you will adjust the dose to your constitution. The best way
of using it is this. Take a Phial that will hold four ounces &
a little more, put into it, 4 ounces of your
{illeg} & along with
it a full double tablespoonful of the best double Rum;
& {illeg} you are to use the Oil shake the Phial very well
that the Rum may be equally Mixed., then pour [on it?]
your dose & Swallow it immediately. I think the Castor
Oil
the most promising remedy for your complaint, but
if it shall happen that either the Oil I send you, shall
prove very griping or that it does not operate but in
a larger dose you will be obliged to employ some other
Laxative & with regard to these I have written in my
former letter to Dr Garroch. The Castor Oil requires
no particular regimen & neither change of diet nor
confinement. Your dose of Laudanum is
very moderate but I hope you shall soon
have no occasion for it at all. Yours &cc
