For Miss Gwynn. [Page 1]

Miss Gwynn's first care must be to keep her belly regular
For this purpose I have prescribed a medicine on a paper
apart which she must employ as often as necessary, so as never
to be without a stool for more than two days.

This she is especially to attend to towards the end of a month
when it may be proper for her to take a dose every night

Towards the same time time, she should every night set her feet &
Legs in warm water, for half an hour or longer, taking
care however to have them very well dried & rubbed, before
she goes into bed, & when she lies down to have them wrapt
in warm flannel, till they have become sufficiently warm.

At the approach of a period as soon as any of the pains she
has been liable to come on, let her take two of the
Anodyne Pills at bed time, or if does not find that the dose
of the Pills does not quiet the pains intwo hours more, she
may take one or two Pills more. If the Pains continue
to {illeg} she should take a dose of the Pills every night
even after the Period has come on. ––

[Page 2]

This management it is hoped will make her periods much
easier than they have been; but if either then or at any
other time a Hysteric fit should come on she must have
recourse to Laudanum, to be taken & repeated in full
doses as occasion may require taking care at the same time
by Glysters to keep her belly regular. If in case of an
Hysteric fit ye Laudanum should be rejected by vomiting
it must be given by way of Glyster but in a double
dose. The best manner for making Glyster is by diss¬
olving three drams of Gum Arabic in three ounces
water, & after straining & moderately warming, the
Laudanum is to be mixed with it & the whole given by way of
Glyster. –– This is the management of fits, but it will be
much more desirable to prevent them, & this is to be done by
taking great care to avoid cold fatigue & all emotion of mind
& particularly in taking care to avoid all every thing in diet
that may either load her Stomach or raise wind upon it.

Take one ounce each of Socotrine Aloes and Gentian Extract, fifteen grains of Gamboge, and ten grains of Colomel. Rub together the aloes with the Gamboge and calomel, then add the extract and with as much Gum Arabic paste as suffices make a mass to be divided into pills of five grains each. Label: Laxative Pills one or two ↑to↑ be taken for a dose at bedtime.

Take two ounces of Thebaic pill dough. Divide into pills of five grains each. Label: Anodyne Pills two for a Dose.
