For Mrs Anderson


Her ailment troublesome, not dangerous. may be altogether
prevented. Therefore


Avoid a full diet of animal food. May take a bit of
meat at dinner. None at supper. At dinner, any
kind of plain meat as beef mutton, veal, lamb, whitefowl,

but should make up with broth, pudding & vegetables
Avoid Bacon, Pork or any very fat meat, baked or fried
meats, & heavy sauces. Eggs unless as a part of a
pudding are bad for her as also Cheese unless in
very small quantity Fish, seldom & sparingly.


For drink, water with a little of some whitewine.
Avoid all malt liquor. At dinner & supper she
may take 2 or 3 glasses of plain wine, but let
it be whitewine, & avoid Red.


Frequent exercise on horseback or in a carriage, & if
once a year she take some length of journey
it will be of service.


Guard against cold, especially in her feet & legs
If a fit ↑of Illness↑ come on, a little vomitting may be allowed
but not much, & not to be encouraged. The first
thing to be done is to open her by a Laxative
glyster & after that if she haue not much vomiting
she may take 2 of the Anodyne pills below. But
if the vomiting be urgent & the Pills be thrown
up again, take the Anodyne glyster also below.


If the fit of pains [attending it, do not withstanding?]
continue violent, the Pills or Glyster may be repea¬
ted after 4 or 5 hours.


When she is tolerably free from her complaint she
should take 5 of the Aperient pills every night & morning for a fortnight, & this she should do at least every two
months, & particularly if at any time she feel her disor¬
der coming on, she may take these pills for 2 or 3
day in hope she may prevent the fit

But when the disorder is actually come on, she
must lay aside these pills.

Take one drachm of Soap Pills and divide into twelve pills. Label: Anodyne pills two for a dose.

Take three ounces of spring water and three drachms of Gum Arabic. Dissolve, strain & add one drop of Thebaic Tincture. Label: for the Anod. glyster.

Take two drachms of electuary of powdered rhubarb, three drachms of Spanish Soap and a sufficient quantity of Muscilage Gum Arabic to make a mixture, out of which make six pills of half-a-drachm each. Label: Aperiant Pills N.B If this laxative pills too {illeg} [and?] more than one {illeg} indicated, increase quantity of soap to six drachms
