For Mr Grey.
Dear Sir

I have this minute received yours
and tho I have not a minute to spare, my
concern for Mr Grey engages me to write tho'
it must be very shortly. ———

I am of opinion with the gentleman at
Alnwick that you cannot go on to draw blood
from the arm & that you must trust to keep¬
ing very cool, giving cold drink, avoiding
all motion & keeping the belly open by cooling
laxatives. The Bark will I think do no service.
The powder will be of more service but the
Sang. draconis is an useless ingredient and the
Alum may be increased or the doses of it may
be taken more frequently. Five grams of Alum
may be taken every two hours for five or six
times and in the intervening hours he may take
from five to ten grams of Nitre. The Elixir
of Vitriol
may be taken to fifeteen or twenty
drops with every dose of the Alum or the cold
water he drinks Should be constantly acidulated
with the Spiritus Vitrioli tenuis. I think the blister
to the back was a very proper application, but it
must not be turned into a perpetual blister

[Page 2]

but healed up as soon as may be that a fresh
blister may be applied if necessary. The tickling
cough
must be prevented as much as possible
And Pomfret Cakes may be usefull but an
anodyne at bed time may be still more effectual.

Wishing you heartily success I am
Sir
Your most obedient Servant
W.C.
