For Miss St claire

Nervous affections of the Blood & eyes are
of very great variety in different Persons & Miss
Stclair seems Peculiar but it appears to me to be of
the same nature with many others I have met
with and may I hope be relieved by the following
means. -------

1. Let the head be close shaven and
kept so & let some Cold water be poured from
the pipe of a tea kettle every morning upon
the hind head while the face is bended
downwards over a bason. - The quantity of
water may at first be small not above a
muchkin but it may every day be gradually
increased to what she can easily bear. ---

At first also the Water may be poured from a
small height, an inch or two, but that may
be afterwards increased to six or eight. -

At first too the great coolness of the Water
may be taken of by adding a fourth or fifth
of Boiling water but that should be
withdrawn by degrees till it is used quite
Cold. ---------------

[Page 2]

2. Let Miss Stclair take every morning two
table Spoonfulls of the aperient solution ordered
below in half a muchkin of Spring Water after
she has Bathed her head & before she has taken
Breakfast. The water may be taken at two
draughts. -- If the dose Proposed keeps the
belly regular it is enugh, if it Purges she should
take less & if it does not Prevent Costiveness she
should take more. ----

3. - I thought of Advising a Particular snuff
but it may be delayed till we see the effect of
the other remedies. ------

4. --- Tho I do not think that Miss Stclairs
Complaints proceed from her Stomach I think
it very necessary for her to avoid anything
that may be heavy on her Stomach or occasion
indigestion. -----
