Kilconquhar House Sunday 1 oClock
March 8th 1789
Dear Gentlemen


You will have seen
Friday Mornings Report of Mr. Bethunes
Case which was not so favourable as
now am happy to have it in my power
to give- Yesterday (Saturday) morning at Eight
oClock a large tea spoonful of the Electuary
was given & by ten oClock forenoon Five
Copious Watery Stools were produced. notwith¬
stand of the Brisk operation of the Medicine
Mr. Bethune which gave not the least uneasi¬
ness Mr. Bethune felt free and easy not the
least fatigued- little or no drought. Urine
freer & reather more Copious. Lateritious Sedi¬
ment
much as formerly however- Appetite
beginning to return yesterday & this morning

released what food he took-- Cough which
is loose [&?] free as to frequency much as before
tho less difficulty of Breathing except last
night towards bedtime a little frequently (↑Difficulty↑) of
Breathing
was felt this forenoon however
perfectly free in that respect- At times Mr. B:
expectorates a little bloody stuff as mentioned
in last report- Hoarsness better, Continance
fresh & lively- Bore the Exercise in the Carriage
yesterday vastly well. Blister which has operated
well is near about whole. Œdematous Swell¬
ing
rather upon the whole I think demin¬
ished. Tomorrow the Diuretic Electuary to
be repeated. I am Dear Gentlemen
