Normalized Text

[Page 1]
Dear Doctor

Mr Campbell. Succoth, last night gave me
a letter which you did me the honour to write some months ago -
For some time after he came west he perhaps imagined he was growing
no worse, or more likely it was from inattention to his complaint that
he did not give it me sooner

I should imagine that things are very considerably
changed since you saw him - the little tumour which you described as
being unconnected with the ulcerated place below, is now completely joined
to it - this Ulcerated place which is covered by a scab & is nearly the size
of the nail of ones finger, in the center of a scirrous tumour, which extends
more than an inch from above downwards, and nearly that horizontaly
A considerable part of this tumour (particularly round the edges of the Ulcer)
is covered by a deseased reddish skin, but the greatest part of the skin
that covers it, is not as yet all altered - the tumour is as yet moveable and
may easily be taken away, and I believe this to be the only remedy.
I did not mention this to him, but I said I would write to you tonight

[Page 2]

and it was agreed to abide by what you should direct. There is as yet
very little pain or even itchiness in it, but the disorder is most undoubted¬
ly fast increasing –

I am Sir
Your Most Obedient humble Servant
Alex Dunlop
Glasgow 15th July 1787

I have not mentioned above the situation of the tumour which is immediately
below the left eye
and begins at at the tumour which you saw under the
lower eyelid
and extends upon the ball of the cheek
