The Consultation Letters of Dr William Cullen (1710-1790) at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
[ID:2883] From: Dr John Ralph Fenwick / To: Dr William Cullen (Professor Cullen) / Regarding: Mrs Jane Porter (Blenkinsop) (Patient) / 22 September 1786 / (Incoming)
Letter from John Ralph Fenwick, a former student of Cullen, concerning the case of Mrs Porter. He writes that he had asked her not to write herself as her case was 'in some respects singular' and that she has 'by her habits with medical men acquired a confused notion of many of the terms & doctrines of physic', but notes that she had written anyway. In outlining his treatment of her, he also warns that she has not always followed instructions with medication, and that her 'predilection to opiates somewhat retarded the cure'.
