Mrs Reid was ordered to Peterhead
to use the Cold Bath for a Sprained
ankle & Reumatism, during the use of
which, having caught Cold, the Reumatism
disappeared, and She was seized with a
Fever, of the Inflammatory kind
, a strong
full & quick pulse
, Violent Headach, Nausea,
& Oppression at Stomach, Slight delirium,
want of Sleep, Thirst & furred tongue,
with a Bound belly, By a Strict ad¬
herence to the Antiphlogistic regimen,
the use of Nauseating Doses of Antimonials,
& gentle laxatives Occasionaly, the fever
wore off in five weeks without any
evident Crisis. Since which, for these
two weeks Her recovery has been but very
slow, Her Appetite is tolerable, Tongue
clear, Skin soft & Cool, Sleeps indifferent
well
, is free from any internal pain,

or uneasy sensations in either thorax
or Abdomen, Has a very considerable
degree of thirst
, & dryness of the mouth,
Small and remarkably quick pulse
varying from 100 to 130
, Urine in proper
quantity, but seldom any other discharge
from
the Bowels but what is procured
by an Aloetic Pill, which She has long
been in the habit of taking, every
Second Day. Severe, but not constant
pain in the Muscles of that Leg and
thigh
which was formerly sprained
& affected with the Rheumatism, the foot
and Ankle of which is swelled and
Oedematous
,


Since the decline of the fever Her
regimen has been Tea with a Slice
of Toasted Bread & Honey for Breakfast,
for Dinner, Panado, Boiled Turneps,
Chicken Broath, weak, Once or twice
Half of a Small Chicken Broiled, and

for some days past has got a Glass of
Wine with water, after dinner, with
a moderate allowance of Small Beer.
For Supper if She inclines, Panado,
Also Twenty Drops of the Acid Elixr
of Vitriol
twice a day for Medicine.
