Sir

I was favoured with yours, when Mr Livingstone
arrived from his Jaunt, I was extreamly happy to find him so
well, and that his Journey, had agreed with him, However I
am Sorry to Acquaint you that it would appear that travelling
suits Mr Livingstones constitution, better than Living at
home, for the Very day after he Arrived, he had a fresh return
of his complaints, not so much of Asthma, as a total loss of
Apetite
, constant, dead, gnawing pain in his Stomach; with loth¬
ing at every kind of food,
on Thursday last he took a Vomit
(his Ordinary dose) he did throw up, a Considerable quantity
of Viscid Phlegm; but it required a great dale of forcing with
a feather, and part of it had gone downwards for he had three
Loose Stools in the night, on Friday he took a dose of Columba
Powder
and Magnesia, and Yesterday a Small dose of the
Rhubarb Elixir
which also Purged him gently, and this day
he was again to try the the Columba - In the whole the Pain and
Sickness was a little abated, but no return of Apetite, he wishes
you would advise something or other, for the complaint in his
stomach
- There was no Gambog in his Laxative Pills but
as the Magnesia, and the Rhubarb Elixir has the Effect as

a Laxative they are Undoubtedly better for his present
complaint- I am Affraid, should an Anodine at bedtime
become necessary, it will be difficult to persuade him to take
it, as the last he took, he blamed (without reason) for encreas¬
in his disease- He has at present a Small quantity of
a green Astringent bitter Powder, which you prescribed for
the same complaint, in his Stomach, a considerable time ago
and which at that time; gave him great relief, but I am at a
loss to know what it is, unless it be the Powder of the Water
Trefoil
, if you can recollect be so good as Acquaint me what it
is I am
