Houstown 2d November 1781

Sir


When I wrote you last night Concerning Mr.
Shairp I mentioned that I had left him tolerably easy in
the morning, I am Sorry to say that did not last long for
about one O Clock, he was Attack'd with a Severe fitt of the
Asthma, which continued all night and all this day, and
altho he is at present Somewhat easier yett, I am Affraid he
will pass but a very Indifferent night
, his pulse being much
depress'd and more irregular than Usualy
, he has expectorate
very little yesterday
, and has eat I may {illeg} say
nothing, his Countenance pale and Eyes Languid, I begin
to be very apprehensive about him, he is quite tired of the
Fætid mixture, it must be either given up or Chang'd for some¬
thing Else, Your further directions or a Visit as soon as
possible will be very Acceptable here -- Mr. Livingstone putts
on his blister this night I am to see him in the morning as
early as possible
