A Gentleman of about Sixty Years of Age of a thin Habit of
Body remarkable healthy till within Five or Six Years when he
Complain'd of a giddiness in his head which was supposed to be
nervous and much Afflicted with Rhumatick pains in his Shoulders
& joints but never had any Fitt of the Gout. he used much exercise
such as Hunting & Shooting for many Years but latterly lessen'd it.
He has been a pretty Free Live'er and generally drank a bottle
of Wine in a day. never any Liquors in the morning a remark¬
able little eater. He has dayly used Horse exercise since he left
off Hunting about Three Years since he came Home in a very Cold
morning and his speech was affected so that it was imagin'd he
had something of a Paralitick but on geting warm was perfectly
removed about a year since was seized with a very severe
Paralytick Stroke which intirely deprived him of his senses for
two or three days. It affected his right side chiefly. He has never
had his speech distinct since but rather a hesitation and difficulty
in speaking
he has a kind of contraction in his knees so that he
has not been able to walk as before. He has Complained of a difficulty
in swallowing
his Liquors ever since his seizure. about a [Months?]
since he was seiz'd with a kind of a stupor and Sleepiness. and
has not been as well ever since. He was regularly attended by
an Eminent Physician in Oxford. who order'd at First Leeches to
the
Temples. Blisters & Volatiles. after that Cordials with Huxhams
Tincture of Bark
. kept the Body Open with Tincture of Heira Picra
& Senna. then order'd a perpetual Blister in the Back and an
Issue in the Arm. likewise Boluses with Mustard Seed and [Arum?] 1
Root & Gum Guaiacum. & Winters Bark. with a warm Cordial
Jalap
. he has Drank Pyrmont Water. For Common Drink and
Port Wine about Five or Six Glasses dayly. what he never has
been subject to Costiveness From his First seizure.


NB. The Musk has been try'd but would not do as it increased his giddine[ss]
