Glasgow 26th April 1777
Sir

You will remember about a month ago I waited
on you with a state of my case from Mr. Alexr. Dunlop of this place
When after a consultation with Mr. William Chambers you pre¬
scribed for me a course of Mercury and Cicuta -- Which pre¬
scription I have been following since, with some benefit
Altho' all the Cicuta of this place and from Edinburgh has been tried, but,
tho' I took as far as twenty one grains at a time, without any
sensible effect, what I mean is that I feel nothing different from
what I would have done had I not taken it -- As that was
the case Mr Dunlop ceased administring it. The pain in
the Neck of the Bladder & the uneasiness felt there is much
abated but not quite gone -- I have ceased taking any
Mercury since for eight days past because then it was
affecting my mouth I have during this course strictly
abstained from every kind of animal food, & ↑from↑ drink of
every kind, water excepted -- My Reason fror troubling
you now is for your directions in case you think any
thing further is necessary to be done to perfect my cure
I am Respectfully

Sir your very Humble servant
Rob Fergusson

Please direct to me at the house
of John Glassford Esqr. & Co.
Glasgow

I began to take the Mercury on the
2d. April & continued it till the 18.th
