Sir

At the desire of some of your Sister (Mrs Stuarts) Friends
I give you this trouble concerning her ––– You know the concern I
took in her settlement here at the Desire of my worthy Friend Dr Cullen
& it gave me pleasure to find that her own good behaviour forwarded
my endeavours for getting her into business & had she kept her
Health her chance would have been equal for success to any body
in her way here, but her Health has been so bad for twelve months
past as to confine her frequently from all business –– Last Summer
she had violent Head achs & inflammation in her Eyes & was
threatnd with the loss of the sight of one Eye, frequent
bleeding with Leeches, Blistering & a Seton in her neck removd
the Head ach & her Eyes became well but she never recoverd
her strength perfectly & on getting Cold or fatigue her Headach
frequently returned –– Of late her Headachs became more fre¬
quent & after frequent trials of the Bark & other medicines
it was only releivd by blistering the Crown of her Head ––
Of late she has been at times affected with temporary

[Page 2]

Palsey sometimes in one Arm & Leg & sometimes in another
& a faltering in her speech, neither of any great duration
& for some days past she has been better during this illness
the Menstrual Discharge has been scanty & irregular, but of
late has ceasd entirely
–– At present she attends her busi¬
ness, but could not undergo any great fatigue –– My opinion
of her Case is that ↑it↑ may not {illeg} be attended with immediate
hasard, but the best prospect is the Chance of a slow recovery
only if at all, & that its much connected with the state of
her Mind & that her situation & that of her Family frequently
gives her uneasiness of that kind. I have given you this
Sketch of her Case lest you should desire to take Dr Cullens
advice about it, if so you may tell the Dr that I have
given as much attention as I could during her illness
to the state of her Stomach & keeping up her strength
& that for that purpose Cortex & Chalybeates have frequently
[occurrd?]
