For Mr Jeffrey
Dear Doctor

There being no post yesternight I could not
answer yours till now. Mr Jeffreys Son is in danger of
Epilepsy and I think our measures must be directed
accordingly. The Eruption coming out may save him but it
is very precarious & I think he should have a constant drain
by a pea issue
in his Arm. Bleeding from time to time may
be usefull if the times of fullness are watched but it will
be much better to prevent it by a spare diet & the strictest
temperance with regard to strong drink. Gentle Exercise
will be of Service but all violent Exercise must do harm.
I expect little from vomiting or purging & he will hardly
bear the last. However either crudity of the Stomach may
require a vomit or costiveness a laxative at times. To favour
the determination to the [Strain?] I would give either the emetic
wine
or a Solution of Tartar [refracta?] dosi with a sarsa
Dicoction
. As you see occasion you may throw in some of
the nervous medecines, when the effects of this fit are well
over I would approve of his returning to the Sea bathing.

All close attention
is bad for him & as long as he finds that reading brings on
that twitching in his neck he should abstain from it.

The case is perhaps too recent to fix our measures very
positively but when there is occasion for more consultation
you will let me know. My best compliments to Mr Jeffrey Senior
and all friends.
