All former letters were carried to Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster although this one was given to John Campbell, the Captain's friend. Dr Sinclair, the writer's cousin, will give Cullen and Monro further information.27 July 1789

The first is addressed to John Campbell, Writer to the Signet, Edinburgh, in which Sinclair writes that he had heard nothing from Sir John Sinclair 'under whose care all my letters to Doctor Cullen were sent'. The second is a letter which Campbell is to pass on to Cullen, in which William Sinclair suggests bringing the patient to Leith by water.29 July 1789

The letter is addressed to John Campbell with instructions to deliver it to Cullen. He also writes that Lady Janet Sinclair 'desires me to mention his loss of sight'.1 August 1789

A note from Monro to Cullen is added which states that the letter contained nothing new so he referred Sinclair to their previous letters. The indexing note on the reverse states that the letter was answered by Monro.15 August 1789
