Case note by Robert Watson, describing the case of Mrs Watson (presumably his wife), aged 25 and 'of a Scorbutic habit of body', who caught cold 3 months after giving birth. She then suffered a relapse after riding to Edinburgh (their country home is about 9 miles south of town), and suffers from bouts of cough, shivering, sweating and retching. The letter is annotated 'October', but as Cullen responded to it on 30 September, it must be dated a few days earlier. | 25? September? 1784

Reply concerning the case of Mrs Watson, probably to her husband: ' such ailments frequently end in a Consumption', but Cullen believes it may be averted by wearing flannel, avoiding exertion (even going upstairs), and diet. He encloses prescriptions in his own hand for a pectoral mixture and anodyne pills. | 30 September 1784
