The first page is a copy made in a scribal hand, with the rest by Cullen.27 April 1782

Reply for Mr Burnet, in response to an account of his condition that 'gave me a great deal of concern'. After a conversation with Dr Grant on the matter, Cullen is of the view that a sea voyage is the best remedy, but warns that it may be difficult to find 'a neutral ship' departing soon from Aberdeen, or from any of the ports on the east coast; much of the letter is taken up with suggestions for gaining a suitable ship. 13 May 1782

He asks Cullen for his opinion on 'what toun or County in England you think most proper to pass the winter in', and asks for Cullen to return Dr Grant's letter to his wife, 'which she gave you & you have forget to return'. 15 May 1782
